| NEWS NOTES Ideological fight is most important
By Jyoti Basu W ith another May Day, we are reminded yet again of the fight against imperialists and capitalists and how significant this day is to the labour community. It6 is a fact that after the observance of May day for 100 years and the existence of the Soviet Union for 75 years, the collapse of the USSR came as a rude shock to the labour movement and shift in power went to the advantage of the capitalists. But the labour movement is again turning back and holding its own against such forces. It is thus our duty to ensure that the ideological fight that we are taking part in at the moment must reach the people at large and they must be made conscious.India is now being ruled by a coaltion whose principles are being formed by the communal BJP.Thier `Hindutva' is only their's, not that of the Hindus. This is to be treated as a curse not only against the minorities but the Hindus as well. Only uncivilised barbarians can utter such slogans. They are against the common good and against the people, siding as they with capitalist principles all the time. Their policies are a sellout to the imperialist nations and the dangers inherent in such policies can only be imagined. They are out to destroy the public sector under the directives of the US and other imperialist nations, not to forget the IMF. In protest against these policies, the trade unions of the country have decided to strike work and organise a hartal on May 11. It is important that secular forces must give the lead in such agitations. |
